SCAMS

General Scam Information

Phonebusters
Is a Canadian Website that has a large amount of information on a wide variety of scams you may encounter.  The La Junta Area has seen two recent types of scams that are talked about on this site.

Email and Internet Hoaxes

There are numerous email "warnings" and "hoaxes" which are circulating through the email systems. The LJPD is providing you with links to sites where you can research and validate email warnings you may receive.

Hoax Warnings
This page is considered the industry standard information source for new virus hoaxes and false alerts.

Truth or Fiction
Welcome to TruthOrFiction.com Your email reality check! When you get emails with warnings, virus alerts, inspirational stories, business opportunities, and pleas for help...check them out to see if they are Truth or Fiction.

Hoax Encyclopedia
Virus Hoaxes and other misinformation about viruses.

Hoax Kill
Once you are certain that a message is a hoax, you can send it to hoaxkill@hoaxkill.com. Our software will then extract the addresses of all previous recipients from the message and inform them all that the message is a hoax.

We hope these sites are useful and that by providing this information we can help end email hoaxes!

Internet and Email Scams
