The La Junta Municipal Animal Shelter is a PACFA licensed facility, licensed through the Colorado Department of Agriculture. We are managed through the La Junta Police Department Code Enforcement Division.

Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday  4 pm to 6 pm,  Friday - 3 pm to 6pm, Saturday - 11 am to 6 pm.  Closed on Sunday and Monday

The La Junta Animal Shelter is not a rescue facility and therefore can not accept surrendered pets.

Municipal Codes

6.12.010 Owner Defined: Owner means any person owning, keeping or harboring a dog.

6.12.20 Abandoment Prohibited: It is unlawful for any person to abandon or cause to be abandoned any dog.

6.12.040 Vacciantion Required: All dogs over 6 months of age that are kept or harbored shall be vaccinated for rabies.

6.12.100 Impoundment: Upon impoundment of each dog, a registration of each dog shall be made.

6.12.110 Impoundment Fees:
 First 4 days of INITIAL offense - $50.00
 Any subsequent days - $10/day

 First 4 days of SECOND offense - $75.00
 Any subsequent days - $10/day

 First 4 days of THIRD offense - $100.00
 Any subsequent days - $10/day
